Every large office needs to send and receive faxes. In the legal profession, it is sometimes a task that might take the creation of its own department. At Faber & Brand, we, at one time, were struggling with fax distribution and needed to simplify the faxing procedure.
The beginnings were humble. We started with one basic fax machine, with more added later. That proved to be cumbersome because the fax machines required maintenance and we already had laser printers that were more than adequate for the fax printing task.
We decided to go digital. First, we employed simple fax programs on multiple machines. The management of those computers made us rethink our strategy, deciding to upgrade our program to GFI FAXmaker™. It was inexpensive software with proven reliability and did not require very high-end fax boards. It allowed us to place the whole modem pool inside one computer and designate which modems were used for faxing. We were able to install the fax client software on 10 computers. That way, managers and key personnel were able to fax straight from their desks.
Overall we are very happy with the success of this project. For those who are just starting the computer faxing journey, a word of advice: invest in a good fax modem. It will save you a lot of troubleshooting time during installation.
