Since opening in 1984 Speedibake
has grown to become one of the leading producers of bakery products in
the UK with a range of over 600 products. Today Speedibake employs 800
people and makes the most diverse range of bakery products available
from a single supplier. The company is based over two sites with
factories and offices in Wakefield and Bradford.
Network
vulnerability
As it is growing in one of the most dynamic and diverse food sectors,
the company recognized that it required not only excellent customer
service and a passion for innovation and the highest quality standards
but it also felt the need to deal with the growing problem of network
security.
“We felt that we needed to address the issue of
Internet/network security and minimize risk by implementing a patch
management system,” explained Stephen Slater,
Network Administrator at Speedibake. “We needed the ability
to remotely update all of our machines with the latest security
patches. We also needed the facility to check the current
vulnerabilities of our network.”
Mr. Slater said the company had searched the Internet for related
products. They came across GFI
LANguard Network Security Scanner (N.S.S.) and
subsequently downloaded the trial version of GFI LANguard N.S.S. 5.0,
which enabled them to test the product fully before purchasing. Mr.
Slater revealed that “after a short evaluation we found that
it met the needs of our organization”.
Practical and
user-friendly interface
GFI LANguard N.S.S. was an ideal solution for Speedibake as it proves
to be both a means of proactively securing their network and
identifying possible security holes, as well as providing a complete
patch management solution. Speedibake uses GFI LANguard N.S.S to scan
its entire network, IP by IP, and to gain access to information such as
missing security patches, wireless access points, services or
applications active on the computer and weak passwords.
“We found the software was very easy to install and
configure”, said Mr. Slater. “The interface is
practical and user-friendly and gives the ability to customize scans
and filters to our individual needs.” By enabling the company
to analyze scan results easily, GFI LANguard N.S.S. enables Speedibake
to proactively secure the network.
In addition, Speedibake was also looking for a patch management
solution. GFI LANguard N.S.S permits Speedibake to identify and deploy
missing patches and service packs network-wide. As a result, Mr. Slater

saved many of hours of manual checks and updates on our
network”.
Speedibake was so satisfied with GFI LANguard N.S.S. that it has since
upgraded to version 6.0 of the software. The company has a 250-IP
license.
