Thomson multimedia Polska Sp. z o.o., the Polish branch
for Thomson, a multinational company catering for media and entertainment
industries worldwide, uses GFI LANguard Security Event Log Monitor
(S.E.L.M.) (now GFI EventsManager) to improve its servers' protection while reducing
administration time.
"We decided to implement an event log monitoring system in
order to improve the protection of our servers' environment and
to simplify administration by automatic filtering and alerting of
critical events," explained Janusz Grudzien, IT Security
Officer at Thomson's Polish branch. "Monitoring the system
is part of a security policy based on ISO 9001 and BS 7799 standards
that we implemented in our department."
The company was looking for a product which was suitable for its
infrastructure. Thomson multimedia Polska needed a product that
could fulfill the following criteria:
- Collect data from a data center with over 70 servers
- Automatically select critical events and send them to administrators
by email
- Easy to configure and maintain.
Cost effective and time-saving solution
GFI LANguard Security Event Log Monitor offered the right
solution, and at a low cost. "GFI LANguard S.E.L.M version
5.0 met our demands related to technical specifications at an optimal
price," said Mr. Grudzien. Thomson multimedia Polska currently
uses the monitoring system for 70 servers based on one server. GFI
LANguard S.E.L.M version is installed on this server together with
Microsoft SQL 2000 server as a database. There are currently 1,700
computer users within the network.
Mr. Grudzien is delighted with the way GFI LANguard S.E.L.M has
simplified the task of monitoring for critical events. "The
product is working perfectly, sending only important information
to our administrators instead of millions of low importance events
collected in the logs. Before implementing GFI LANguard S.E.L.M.,
we had to spend many hours looking for critical information in logs.
Now we only spend a few minutes for that!"
