Mail essentials for Exchange/Notes/SMTP
London, UK, 12th April 1999 – GFI today announced its new mail server add-on Mail essentials. Mail essentials increases a company’s control over its corporate email by offering essential e-mail features such as disclaimers, virus checking, compression of attachments, archiving, advanced anti-spam measures, content checking for offensive or confidential information, personalized auto-replies with tracking numbers and a POP3 downloader.
Mail essentials closes important security gaps in a company’s e-mail system by fighting off viruses, adding a disclaimer to each outgoing e-mail, and protecting the company from possible ‘information leaks’. E-mail control is increased by the ability to ‘quarantine’ certain in- or outbound e-mails on the basis of included words/phrases and/or attachments. Advanced anti-spam measures are also included in the product: by picking up on typical spam practices such as incorrect From headers and addresses in the e-mail body, Mail essentials can block incoming spam and stop spammers using a company’s mail server to relay their mail. Furthermore, with Mail essentials companies save on bandwidth usage by automatically compressing outbound attachments, and the archiving option gives companies a solid back-up system and the possibility to periodically check e-mail content.
Using POP3 with Exchange Server and Lotus Notes Using the built-in POP3 downloader, companies with Exchange Server or Lotus Notes can now also use POP3 mailboxes at an Internet Service Provider to retrieve their company’s email. In this way Mail essentials can reduce ISP costs, and companies can select any ISP rather than having to find an ISP that can handle Exchange server or Lotus Notes.
Professional image With the intelligent auto reply function Mail essentials also increases a company’s professional image by dealing with requests in a professional, timely manner. For instance when an email is received, Mail essentials can send a personalized auto reply informing the customer that the email has been received and that it is being dealt with. Furthermore a unique tracking number can be assigned to each e-mail, giving the customer and employee an easy point of reference.
Mail server add-on Mail essentials is an add-on for mail servers such as Exchange server and Lotus Notes. Because Mail essentials does not require any proprietary client software, the implementation is completely transparent to the user. An evaluation version can be downloaded from: http://www.gfi.com/. Pricing of Mail essentials starts at $395 for 25 users.
